The Citizens Party is honoured to promote a new 88-page pictorial book, “Saviour on a Shoestring”, about our wonderful friend and collaborator, Denise Brailey.
Soon after the global financial crisis the Citizens Party began working with Denise to expose the extensive mortgage fraud by banks that had destroyed thousands of Australians. Denise had fought for consumers against financial corruption and wrongdoing for decades, in Western Australia and then all across the country.
She was David vs. financial Goliaths, but was amazingly effective in forcing action on major scandals and very big issues. She helped to persuade then-Labor Opposition Leader Bill Shorten to support a banking royal commission, which eventually forced the government to establish the Hayne Royal Commission that exposed to the whole nation the wrongdoing she had fought for years.
Her last campaign, alongside the Citizens Party, was for the elderly tenants of the Sterling First rent-for-life scheme, whose lives were ruined due to the failings of the WA government and Commonwealth government agency ASIC. Denise’s poor health has brought an end to her consumer advocacy, but the record of her work, contained in this beautiful pictorial book compiled by her son Lee Doyle, inspires the Citizens Party, and will inspire all readers, to always fight for justice for financial victims.
